Bio-Trap® samplers are based on a premise similar to passive diffusion samplers for volatile organic compounds, but were designed for collecting microbes. These microbial samplers provide a way to compensate for the inherent variability from groundwater samples and to avoid the impediments of direct sediment sampling by integrating the microbial response over time. | Click for more details

Applications include:

Evaluate response to remediation amendments

(e.g. How did the microbes respond?)

Compare Microbial Community Composition

(e.g. Are "known" degrading bacteria present?)

Prove bioremediation is occurring

(e.g. Are the microbes eating benzene?)

Advantages of Bio-Trap Samplers:

  • Integrated: Microbial communities are collected over a period of time rather than in a one time "snap shot" sampling event.

  • Rapid: Shown to collect detectable microbes in a drinking water distribution system within a 24 hour period.

  • Efficient: Biomarkers (DNA, RNA and PLFA) are more efficiently extracted from Bio-Sep Beads

  • Amendable: Properties of the Bio-Sep beads are easily "baited" with a variety of compounds | Click for more details
