How does ORM work?
|Two 8 oz. jars containing site aquifer material are submitted to Microbial Insights for an ORM Column Study. A subsample of the aquifer material is obtained for Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analysis prior to the addition of the chosen edible oil emulsion. The remaining aquifer material is loaded into a laboratory column. Three pore volumes of the chosen oil emulsion are pumped through the column followed by three pore volumes of water at a rate of approximately one pore volume per hour. The treated aquifer material is then removed from the column and homogenized for TOC analysis (in triplicate). The ORM is calculated based on the change in TOC and the carbon content of the oil.|
